Friends Of The Pilanesberg

Just before Valentine's Day, 2016, I learned of a six-year-old female white rhino in Pilanesberg National Park who was named “Shannon”. Yes, she had indeed been named after me. But Shannon the rhino was in a bad way. She had been shot straight through her left front leg a few weeks earlier. No x-ray machine was available on the day of the examination, but she must have had some other injury to the bone or a weakened muscle around the bone, which later caused a break.

A great team of doctors, including Saving The Survivors, were all working hard to save Shannon. Dr. Johan Marais even created the first ever known rhino cast for her leg. If you'd like to read her full story, please check out this post on her: In an effort to support the valiant efforts of Saving The Survivors and the team in Pilanesberg, we made $500 donations to both groups.
